I couldn't figure out why may hands kept going numb and cold on the keyboard. I knew it wasn't just writer's block causing the equivalent of a distraction, i.e., my imagination refocusing the lack of writing ability for the moment telling me that my hands are cold and numb. No, I knew that my hands WERE really cold and numb. Why? Well the position of the hands on the keyboard and mouse for one thing.
When I sit at my computer desk, I have an annoying situation where, when the keyboard is placed on the handy keyboard shelf, my elbows are cramped by the arms on my desk chair, making it virtually impossible to type with any measure of comfort.
So much for the handy keyboard tray, which was a major consideration for choosing the workstation I bought.
So now the keyboard sits on top of the desk which makes my wrist lower than my actual fingers performing the work. Hence, we have cold and numb hands.
I decided I either needed to come up with a solution to the problem, or just stop typing and using the mouse. Not an option. There was no option..I had to find a solution. I figured that buying something to go UNDER my wrists like a wrist pad would be a better opportunity than trying to design a computer that would do the typing for me using a voice activated program that recognizes my voice and types perfectly formed paragraphs with no spelling and grammatical errors. Yeah..I think I will go with the wrist rest for now.
I ended up with two different wrist supports that keep my wrists higher and support them while I use the mouse and type on the keyboard. I found that I could type longer and still feel my fingers than I could without the support underneath my wrists.
OK, problem solved. Now, I can move on to my brainchild..creating that darn computer that does all of my work for me.
