Need to fasten a document to some flat surface? Do you need something that is much easier to post and remove than a staple wire? Do you need something that looks much formal-looking than a sticky tape? Well what you probably need is a thumbtack. Charles Leonard Vinyl Thumbtacks are very useful not only in the office but inside the home as well. The short nail or pin with a vinyl-covered head made of rust-resistant metal is used to pierce the surface to which documents are fastened. It comes in a variety of colours that make them attractive especially when fastened. Its 3/8” flat rounded head allows quick and easy removal from surfaces. The most common thumbtacks are made by attaching a brass sharpened pin to a flat brass head. Here are a few informational tidbits about our favourite fastening tool. - The thumbtack was invented by the clockmaker Johann Kirsten in the year 1903 in the town of Lychen in Uckermarck, Germany. He sold the rights to the invention to Otto Lindstedt, a businessman, who received a patent for the thumbtack on the 8th of January 1904. Lindstedt gained a lot of fortune out of the invention while Kirstenm the clockmaker, remained in poverty.
- A thumbtack is also known a pushpin or a drawing pin in the United Kingdom, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
