Electrical outages are common in the area I live in. I do not know why, but for some reason, it has become a trend in recent months. I guess it's because of electrical overloading.
Anyway, I am especially worried when electricity is down and I am having my computer turned on. We all know that such activities are very harmful as ther may damage your hard drive and, worse, make your computer explode once it is turned on once again.
Yep, it did happen during one stormy night. I was rushing some papers to meet deadlines so I had no choice but to turn my computer on even though it was storming. As I expected (but did not wish to happen), a blackout (electrical outage) occurred. Good thing that the I had the Auto Save function turned on, so my file was saved--but I was still irritated because I had to finish it!
Lo and behold, the power came back and BOOM! Something at the back of my CPU exploded. At one point I thought there would be a fire but, fortunately, it was just a one-second show.
Apparently, the sudden surge of electricity that occurred when the electricity had been turned on again couldn't be handled by the computer's power box. I had it repaired in a nearby computer repair shop and had the power box replaced for a fee that is not so damaging to the wallet. Luckily, no files were corrupted--or so I think.
Moral lesson: connect your computer to a surge protector and a UPS. It really never fails to read the computer guidebook once in a while and know the basics.
