In one my classes, I had an old professor who still preferred to use an overhead projector for his lectures and printed his slides on inkjet transaparencies, even though a digital projector is just around.
He was not really that old. He was just around his 60s, I think, and yet the white strands of hair on his head told me otherwise. It appeared like he is already in his 80s.
He was fairly known in the college for not owning a mobile phone, so it was impossible to find out where he was if he was not around his office or home. At least he had a car, but that was not that new either. It was my suspicion that he did not own a notebook computer, which was quite ironic, considering that he is a teacher of a course on data structures--more on the theoretical branch of computer science, I know, but still computer science, nevertheless.
But I guess it was his choice not to adopt to any of these technologies. He just preferred to do his lectures on overhead projectors, to not own a mobile phone, or probably to not own a notebook computer. Sometimes, when your hair is already turning to white, it is much better to drop whatever is new and stick to what you used to use. Adopting is difficult, especially when you're already in the latter years of your life.
I heard he's going to retire in a year. I guess he'll get to enjoy more of the old days after then.
