Time to listen another piece of music here in the Office! This time around, it is not about The Shins or any rock band. What's most interesting about this version of this particular piece is that the original is waaaaay different from the version showed here. This adaptation, in my opinion, is way better than the original. I am talking about the song "Why Can't We Be Friends?" as performed by the children cast of the 2007 movie The Bridge to Terabithia. If you are not aware, the original version of this song was performed by the 70's American funk band, War. The original version, naturally, has a funky feel to it--somewhat energizing and awkward at the same time (or it's just me not being used to hearing funky music). In the 1990's, Smash Mouth made a remake of the song, but still had the same groovy feel to it.
On the other hand, the Bridge to Terabithia's version of the song featured music coming from a piano, tambourines, castanets, and children singing their heart out--a very different approach to the song, don't you think? This was actually the first version that I heard, and I believe this is the best of them all. Nothing beats the sound of children singing coupled with the notes of the piano. In fact, when I heard the original rendition, I thought it was ugly! Not anymore, though.
For this particular post, I will be posting the version in The Bridge to Terabithia. Unfortunately, this was not included in the OST of the movie, so I will be just posting the scene where the song was played. Enjoy.
