Like what was mentioned yesterday, ordinary pencils differ from their mechanical counterparts by a wide margin. The yellow pencils are there mostly for kids' use, since these pencils are much much cheaper. Kids sometimes tend to lose their school stuff, so why bother giving them very pricey?
For the more affluent and mature, however, mechanical pencils are much better. Aside from the absence of the need for sharpening, mechanical pencils look more formal, more expensive--fit for an office professional like you. Aside from that, wooden pencils do not come in latex covered bodies that will ensure the good grip (the grip in wooden pencils is simply horrifying!).
Despite this, I do not own a mechanical pencil. Why is this so? They are much more expensive. I cannot possibly afford to waste them. If I was just as rich as an office boss, this would not matter. I can have all the mechanical pencils that I want in this world, but I am not affluent. Money is still money. Besides, I prefer to use a pen over a pencil.
Ballpens. Pencils. Mechanical pencils. Even these small things already say a lot about who you are. Even these small things have achieved a level of luxury that only the richest can afford (Will you even buy a thousand-dollar pen?!). This is not contemporary. It dates way way back in time. For instance, the kind of feather that was used in a quill said a lot about its value. Even though quills are not used now, the kind of writing material you use stll matter. Quite funny, if I may say, because when we were kids , all writing materials were just used for doodling.
