Scrapbook pages can make memories last a lifetime

By Lizzie Botticelli at 05/17/2007 09:57
I have just discovered the love of scrapbooking. I, of course, like everyone else have heard and seen about it, but I didn't experience the personal joy it can bring until recently when I sat down with my daughters to put some pictures in albums.

We found a treausre of pictures in a box in the closet. One of those "I'll get around to putting those in albums soon" kind of things... We decided togteher that we would have a contest to see who could make the greatest scrapbook page.

I set about going to different websites to learn different layouts and designs, and how to make some really neat embellishments. There were so many ideas that I never would have thought of on my own. I read interviews, looked at stickers, learned how to make my own vellum pockets, and so many more neat ideas.

We made a trip to the local supply store to see what we could find and I ordered a few things online as well. For the most part, we ordered some neat background paper, a few different paper edgers, and some adhesive to mount the pictures with. We decided to make as much of the embellishment as we could by hand without spending a bunch of money. There were a few sticker sets I had to have like the cheerleading uniform set and a set to use on a page for my daughter's graduation announcement.

After we all completed our pages, we couldn't decide which one was better, so we made us all winners. They were some really beautiful pages and we didn't really invest much money into making them. The supplies we did buy could be used over and over, so they were not a waste of money.

We had such a good time, that we decided we would get together once a month and design a page each. Each daughter is making an album for their own theme using the pictures of them or ones that were special to them and I made one with a central family theme. That way, when the kids are grown and have their own families, they will have a keepsake that they can take with them. It is a wonderful way of sorting out family photos that can be passed down for generations.
