The Original Paris Hilton

By Blog Stories at 12/15/2007 14:26
Before Paris Hilton, Jessica Alba, Pamela Anderson, and Nichole Ricci became household names, we became familiar to the original sex symbol of all – Betty Boop. Who could not know her? Her irresistible hair, curvey body, adorable eyes and cute antics made her a cartoon star of her own. Men adore her and women wish to be like her. She was the brain child of Fleischer studio modeled from the persona of Helen Kane, a singer from Paramount Pictures.

Betty Boop’s debut appearance was on August 9, 1930 in Dirty Dishes and starred in only two colored films “Poor Cinderella” and “Crazy Town” in 1932. Her infamous sexual appeal and skimpy outfits have made her as the first cartoon to portray a sexual woman, which gave her the title “Queen of the Animated Screen”. In 1934 however, the image of Betty was changed into a more conservative one as Production Code Censorship was enforced throughout the industry. To many the character of Betty Boop was a breath of fresh air since it gave a new perspective to animation industry as cartoons become popular to older men. The confidence that Betty exudes became the factor for men to be magneted in their screens and for real women to express their own sensuality as well. The era of Betty Boop has motivated women during that time to show off their sensual side and be liberal of their thoughts and actions. Even as a cartoon, Betty became a symbol not only of sex but also of freedom to exercise one’s right in a free country.

Although the censorship of Betty Boop led to her popularity decline, it has opened doors for new creative ideas in the field in the field of cartoons that connoted liberal ideas such as Simpsons, Spongebob Squarepants, Family Guy and many more. Her trademark pout and batting eyes had made consistently popular throughout the ages. Truly a star at her own league, Betty Boop will always be everyone’s eye candy.

The Lion King

By Blog Stories at 12/13/2007 12:49
Do you remember the first time you felt that being an animal is better than being a human? Well I do, thanks to the jungle inspired soundtrack, majestic hair and toned body of Simba.

Yep, the Lion King, a popular movie known by both kids and kids at heart. The quality of the film has enabled it to set the standard for animated movies to follow such movies as Finding Nemo, Shrek, Toy Story and many more. The critiques dubbed it as one of the best family films in the history of cinematography. In 1995 it was nominated and won numerous awards in the field, most prominent of the lot was winning an Oscar for Best Music Original Song, Best Music Original Score and a Grammy for Best Music Original Score, Best Music Original Song and Best Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical. Other than the originality that it presented to the audience, it also became a learning experience for kids and adults alike. Who could have known that a person would be deeply touched and moved by a film of talking lions and dancing wild boars? We Lion King fans all know that the film is so much more than that. It is a picture that reflects the strong bond of families and the importance of a united community. In the character of Simba and Mufasa, we see how deep and eternal the relationship is between a parent and his child.

Aside from this, the movie showed how strangers can be your friends and how friends can sometimes be the soldiers of fortune in your life story. Lion King gives hope for people who have made mistakes in the past, as it inspires you to create change by owning up to your responsibilities and leading others towards the right path. The motion picture is not only a treat for movie goers who seek comedy, but also a heart warming story for romantics out there. Movie theaters around the world turned cozy as lions and animals showed the simplest form of love there is, something that we humans could only wish to experience. The passion along with the creativity that the Lion King embodies has immortalized itself throughout time. It is certainly a long lasting picture that everyone would treasure in their hearts and movie collections.

Home Office Decoration

By Blog Stories at 12/12/2007 10:57
At one point in our lives, we had to live our lives in a routinely manner. I'm sure it happens/happened to you whether you are a student, a mother, a worker--anyone. At one point in our lives, these people became bored of their lives for lack of excitement, lack of change of environment, and the like.

For example, homes are supposed to be the refuge of people after a long day of hard work. Homes are, well, to be the havens of these people where they could rest and all. However, probably due to the globalization, homes are turned into home offices. The house becomes the extension of the workplace. All you need are cubicles and voila! you now have a convincingly looking office inside your 'haven'.

While it is not bad (oh not at all) to convert your house into a large home office (but it would be better if you won't, but that is just impossible, right?), at least add some style and create some differences between your house and your office, appearance-wise. Putting up some decors will create a sense of "homey-ness".

For instance, why settle for ordinary formal-looking telephones when you can have these cute Mickey-Mouse designed ones? Well, who didn't love Mickey Mouse? I'm sure we all did. Why settle for white lights when you can have disco lights? Why settle for the sounds of nonstop typing on your keyboard when you can have the stereo on, playing the music you want as much as you want?

It's your home. Don't let the norms of your office control the way your house will look like. You're in control.

Land Lines Vs. Mobile Phones

By Blog Stories at 12/10/2007 10:14
When cordless phones are not available, there will be always the corded ones.

For some reason, establishments like banks require their customers to have a land line before opening a bank account. Even PayPal won't let you open a bank account if you do not have a land line. It's probably for safety measures, that they may be able to call you in a more reliable and secure system.

I ask, however: Is it not unfair?

For people like me, who does not have a land line, it is difficult to make such bank accounts. You see, I do not have any much use for a land line as I am almost always out of the house, which is why I prefer mobile phones even though it's insecure--but hey! who will be spying on me, anyway? Furthermore, I have to consider that I cannot possibly pay for both a land line and a mobile phone. Very unfortunate, I know.

On the other side of the spectrum, however, land lines are, well, good for businesses, offices, and the like, as they are more noticeable--and again, secure--than mobile phones. That is probably another reason why banks require land lines--they want to know if you are really serious, if you really mean business here. They want to know if you are creditable enough to buy meters upon meters of phone wire for your business or home office--not to mention the phone unit itself.

Whatever the kind of phone unit you opt to choose (or both, if you can manage the bills unlike me haha), I just hope that banks will consider mobile phones as important as land lines. That's all. So that I could transact business. So that we could ALL transact business.

The Length of Life and How to Optimize It

By Blog Stories at 12/09/2007 12:35
As I have said in a previous blog post, time DOES seem to fly. Imagine, it's already December! Then it'll be time to change the calendars again. Then without you knowing it, it's December again and you'll have to change the calendars again, then it'll be December again, and so on and so forth.

Thinking about this, we realize that time is very short--or, at the very least, our time on this planet is very short. There isn't enough time to do everything we want to do in this lifetime. There isn't enough time to enjoy everything that this plabet has to offer (probably it's for the better). I, for instance, want to travel the world, be a physicist, engineer, computer scientist, economist, and other professions that I could like. This is, obviously, impractical, if not impossible. Getting a graduate degree is, perhaps, better than getting a second degree. (TRIVIA: It is said that it takes more than a lifetime to understand the processes of organic chemistry)

Given that we have a very short time to live and enjoy, what we can only do to maximize it is to be organized in everything that we intend to do. While there are a tremendous amount of activities that an individual cannot accomplish during his lifetime, there are still a large part of them that can still be done--if we just know how to allot time for them.

You might say that "blah blah you just go on and on with your organization thing" but, face it, despite all the reasons posted here why you should get organized (economy, etc.), the main reason why we advocate organization is for productivity and variety. You wouldn't want to live your whole life arranging the files in your store room, would you?

Life is short. Maximize it.

On Being Comfortable and Productive

By Blog Stories at 12/07/2007 12:17
Sitting all day behind your work desk could be really difficult. Prolonged sitting may cause abnormal blood circulation throughout your body. This may result to pain in the back, in the neck, and in other parts of the body. To avoid this, we have to stand up once in a while to allow blood to circulate freely.

Being comfortable with your workplace is essential, too, especially with your chair, as this is the place where you will be staying for the next few hours. It would be nicer if your seat would be soft but, if not, a chair with a good structure would be a must. I think it goes without saying because I am sure you know what it feels like to sit on a poorly constructed chair (very hard; limited seating capacity). When this happens, it's difficult for us to think and, thus, it's difficult to work properly.

It's also worth it to have some form of entertainment or diversion when. Listen to some music via your geadset, have a break for a while and play some game, perhaps, as long as you do not take much time since the essence of doing these activities is to just have a break, anyway.

Whatever you work on in front of your desk--may it be an undergraduate thesis, a report to be delivered in front of the board of directors, a short story that you have been wanting to send to some literary contest, or you simply just want to sit in front of desk--always be comfortable and happy with your condition. Never do something just for the sake of doing it or doing it even though you do not feel well. Let us be productive. We won't be if we are not happy.

File Organization

By Blog Stories at 12/06/2007 10:48
Arranging records has never been easy. Sure, you can dump and dump them all you want for as long as you want, but, in the end, you'll have to deal with the mountains of papers and information on your desk and on your office floor. Doing this (assorting your files), you waste a lot of your time and your company's money that should have been put into a better and productive use.

While compiling files and other necessary documents cannot avoided in the growth of any company, wouldn't it be better if we assort and arrange these files every time they come and not when they are already mounting? You might probably say that that would still take time to arrange each file when they come or that it would be probably hard to retrieve them if they are not simply on your table. However, with an efficient filing system, doing this is just a breeze.

All you need is some sort of equipment that will do the organizing for you, and in which all you have to do is put them in the right containers. You will also have to take into consideration the type of file that you would like to organize, of course. If we are talking about large pieces of paper (blueprints, perhaps?), it is imperative that you put them in some roll file, the sort in which there are small holes and you insert the rolled pieces of paper inside. OR, if it's just probably some small pieces of card that you might have only put notes on, a simple petite covered file case is in order. Luckily, we have both of them here in Office1000. You might want to check them out.

Office organization is always a must. It is not something that we need our bosses to tell us. With organization, you see, there is peace of mind and, hence, productivity.

A Sticky Situation

By Blog Stories at 12/05/2007 08:47
Probably one of the most neglected household items (but most useful) are adhesives.

According to Wikipedia, an adhesive is, basically, a material that adheres (literally) two materials together. Their origins are prehistoric in origin as the first adhesives used (natural gums and other plant saps) were estimated to exist at least 6000 years ago. Aside from gums, animal glues that were created from materials such as buffalo hooves.

Now, thanks to modern technology, we do not have to gather saps from various plants or from animal hooves for our adhering activities. There are "super glues", for one, named such because of their very strong sticking properties. I was a victim of this type of glue when a bottle accidentally dropped on my shirt, pouring all its contents, while I was doing some project. Up to now, the dried glue has not come off yet.

Adhesives are used in many ways that we wouldn't have probably noticed. Glues are used in making scrapbooks, handicrafts, clothing (oh no), furnitures, woodworks, and houses (cement, in essence, is a glue that keeps our houses from falling apart. Manufacturers also put adhesives behind hooks so that they can stick to our walls without the need to drill holes. Or, we can use glue to make super gigantic high school-ish geeky projects.

The most important use of adhesives today, I guess, is in sticky notes!!! The adhesive used in these pieces of paper are somewhat special because they are not strong enough to stick stuff together (durably) but they are strong enough to stick in places where we want them stuck--to remind us of our commitments. What is life without sticky notes in this amnesiac world? Well, your guess is as good as mine.

Whether you like it or not (and I know you like them staying because of their uses that you have taken advantage of countless times in your life), glues are here to stay.

What Happens When You are not Prepared

By Blog Stories at 12/03/2007 12:04
You are in some desolated place, alone (how you got there, I do not know), and without shelters. You see no-one. No-one at all. You shouted out loud, thinking--wishing--that somebody would shout back in response. Company is always welcome in times of desertion, after all. To your frustration, however, nobody shouted back.

Since there are no landlines in the area (the area being an inhabited one), the only hope that you can see--the only hope that might save you--is your mobile phone. Hmm. perhaps you could call somebody? You worried that there might not be any cell site, but you still pursued on using it, since, as I have told, it is your last hope.

To your surprise (not to mention extreme horror), you find out that your mobile phone's out of battery energy!!! What luck, ain't it? You were the luckiest guy on earth, stuck in some lonely universe with no means of contacting outside forces.

You might say that no, why on earth will you be alone in a place like that? Well, Who knows what might happen? You could be on a plane then the plane landed or things like that. The point is, it is not impossible to have yourself stranded in such a place. When this happens, you should be ready, just like a boy scout or a girl scout. It never hurts to be always ahead.

In the situation mentioned above, how can we be ready, given that we cannot prevent ourselves being lost there? Bring extra, of course! If it is a long trip, bring a lot of extra batteries as you may never know what may happen.

If it happens, though, that there are no cell sites nearby (let's say that what you have is a mobile phone)--let us sace it for another time.

Mobile Phones

By Blog Stories at 12/02/2007 12:28
Way way after the first telephone and not-so-way before VoIP phones, there came devices that tried to continue the first phone's purpose (to provide instant communication across long distances) and added some features that did not exist before (wireless communication). They are smaller than the ordinary landlines and some have antenna(e), obvious or not obvious. They are called mobile phones, precisely because of their use in mobile communication.

Most of these phones connect with each other through a series of cellular sites (a cellular network or a base station). Because of this, mobile phones also came to be known as cell phones. Note however that some mobile phones do not connect to cell sites. Example of these are satellite phones.

Originally, mobile phones are meant to be used like landlines but without the cords attached to them. As technology progresses, however, additional features that were ordinarily seen in other devices were also incorporated with these phones. Some of these are short message services (SMS) used for text messaging, polyphonic tones, 'real' tones (they are actually .wav and .mp3 files stored in the cell phone), imaging, videos, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service; used in mobile Internet), 3G, and, more recently, mobile television. And they were incorporated in just a short span of time.

With the rate new mobile phone technology is moving, is it not exciting to wait for the 'next big thing'? Who knows, next time we might even see a full-length movie playing in our phones. Now THAT is something to look out for. Can't wait for that.

In the end, however, despite all of the fancy stuff that the new models come up with, mobile phones' most important features are those that were already made out a long long time ago--during the time when the mobile phone's father is invented. That is the ability of the mobile phone's to let you talk and communicate with anyone around the globe.
