Hoarder, Do You Need More Space?

By Blog Stories at 04/30/2008 12:51
We've already heard that one cause of a highly disorganized office is hoarding. This failure to throw unnecessary clutter because of the thinking that these papers are still important is a major reason why many home offices are always left in a warehouse-like state. But this hoarding is not left at the office alone. Sometimes, it's also taken outside.

Even though I try to keep my workplace organized, when it comes to my bag, it is another matter. When I go out of the house, it's like bringing my whole workplace with me. Books are there. Notepads are there. Lots of papers are there. Even those that I won't need for that particular day are there. I even have packed lunch stored in my backpack. It's a pain, I know, when you have to carry around a full bag with you. Funny thing is I always look like I am going on a hike when I am with my bag. My friends would call out in jest that I always liked to punish myself because of my full bag, whereas theirs were barely full. I'm sure there are people out there who suffer from the same thing.

Sometimes, however, the need for a full bag is really there. When it's a very busy day, I really--REALLY--have to bring along all the books and notes with me. It just cannot be avoided because sometimes all my classes for a certain day require me to bring along the books. The pain this time occurs when there is no more space to put my stuff in. I have to bring the excess stuff with my hand. That could be really troublesome especially when I am commuting.

Do you suffer like I do? Well grab one of these spacious messenger bags from Samsil. It isn't as fancy as those sold for more than a thousand bucks per piece, but it is definitely perfect for anyone who's just looking for more space to keep his/her stuff in. Let's put less on our hands and more inside our bags!

What Happens When You Use A Desktop During A Stormy Night

By Blog Stories at 04/29/2008 12:02
Electrical outages are common in the area I live in. I do not know why, but for some reason, it has become a trend in recent months. I guess it's because of electrical overloading.

Anyway, I am especially worried when electricity is down and I am having my computer turned on. We all know that such activities are very harmful as ther may damage your hard drive and, worse, make your computer explode once it is turned on once again.

Yep, it did happen during one stormy night. I was rushing some papers to meet deadlines so I had no choice but to turn my computer on even though it was storming. As I expected (but did not wish to happen), a blackout (electrical outage) occurred. Good thing that the I had the Auto Save function turned on, so my file was saved--but I was still irritated because I had to finish it!

Lo and behold, the power came back and BOOM! Something at the back of my CPU exploded. At one point I thought there would be a fire but, fortunately, it was just a one-second show.

Apparently, the sudden surge of electricity that occurred when the electricity had been turned on again couldn't be handled by the computer's power box. I had it repaired in a nearby computer repair shop and had the power box replaced for a fee that is not so damaging to the wallet. Luckily, no files were corrupted--or so I think.

Moral lesson: connect your computer to a surge protector and a UPS. It really never fails to read the computer guidebook once in a while and know the basics.

Marketing in an Exhibit

By Blog Stories at 04/28/2008 08:49
Marketing a product is something that is not accomplished in one day's time. Universities won't be offering degrees in marketing if that is such an easy task, right? Marketing is a complex process divided into different phases.

For starters, one way you can market your products is through fairs, exhibits and other conventions. These activities are usually launched by business organizations, so ask your local organization when they plan to have an exhibit. Sometimes, educational institutions hold their own events, which you may sponsor and have the opportunity to introduce and sell your product to the attendees.

Exhibits serve as a place for business owners to introduce their products to the world. I have personally been to some, and I must say that they are good ways to let your company be known. Some new food brands introduce themselves through taste tests (I must say that this is my favorite form of introducing a product hehe). Gadgets are being demonstrated on the spot. Some non-food products also give away free samples. Many of these, and this is just from my observation, are marketed to the public through sampling and demonstration. What better way is there than seeing how the products work, anyway?

And of course, there is the traditional way of giving out brochures and pamphlets or through the use of tabletop displays during these conventions. Information dissemination. That's what it's called. But I believe that they are better off only as a compliment to the demonstration. After all, only a few would mind to read and read through your brochures.

So there are some of your ways to market during an exhibit. May you get something out of the little I have said and successfully create a buzz in the market.

The Fireproof Hard Drive

By Blog Stories at 04/28/2008 08:09
One of my personal worries with having a personal computer as my main machine is fire hazard. I keep on thinking, what if I am out of my place when a fire suddenly broke out and engulfed my CPU? That would be a big heartbreak, I guess, since I have a lot of important documents stored in my personal computer, not to mention the games installed in it.

Of course the most logical way to get around the problem is to ensure that your house is free from fire hazard: make sure that cords are unplugged, etc. But we cannot say when will accidents happen. For all we know, the fire could start in our neighbor's place.

Another way to make sure that data is not lost is to have backup data. Now we're talking. At least, with a spare external hard drive, you are sure that no data will be lost--just expensive hardware.

It's either we put the backup hard drive in a separate location or we keep it somewhere inside your home that is safe from fire. Put it inside a fireproof vault or, better yet, make sure that the hard drive is fire proof itself. Where can you find such a hard drive? We have one here in Office 1000. I am talking about the Fire Safe Waterproof Maxtor 250GB Hard Drive from Sentry, maker of quality fireproof vaults.

From its name, obviously, your this hard drive is not only fireproof. It's also waterproof, so say goodbye to complication arising when your hard drive is accidentally splashed with water. It connects using USB technology so you can surely connect it to most laptops and desktops. As an added bonus, the Maxtor software installed in the hard drive protects your drive from system failure and virus/spyware infection.
