Let's face it folks, as the kids get older, we are shopping for people who pretty much have what they need.I think school shopping is way more fun these days than shopping for Christmas. I struggle every year to find the one thing that each kid wants that I can spend a bundle of money on for it to adorn the corner of the closet by New Year's Eve.
Not so with school shopping as long as you are smart about it. Unless the child happens to be in high school (in any year except freshman), they will probably have a good idea of what they NEED to begin the school year.
Remember WANT and NEED are two completely separate things.
Once you have the handy list, you can shop for the school supplies they need (and sometimes just want) all in one shot and when the UPS guy comes with your box of highlighters, poly portfolios, scissors, filler paper, composition books and other colorful things, it is like Christmas all over again (except much cheaper).
I like shopping online for school supplies, because who wants to stand in an isle in Walmart for 2 hours trying to sort through school supplies shoulder to shoulder with other shoppers? There are lots of choices in buying online, from erasable highlighters to Mead Bright folders.
I will always find an excuse to shop for something. But there is more joy knowing you are making purchases for things that will be used. School supplies are a great investment into your child's future.
Who needs Christmas shopping when you have back to school?
