I have the same problem that many who make their living at a computer share. Legs and feet that swell due to having your legs hanging down all day while sitting.Let's face it, if your desk and chair are at a comfortable height for the keyboard so you can deal with the carpal tunnel syndrome, you probably have the chair too high to allow for proper circulation in your legs.
My feet would swell and even up to my knees would hold fluid due to poor circulation from sitting. I decided it was time to try and find a solution.
I looked at different chairs; more cushion, less cushion, more adjustability...and just couldn't find the answer.
When I work from home, I have a black German Shepherd who likes to lay in front of my feet under my desk. One day I decided instead of moving her out of the way, I would use her for a footrest. Eureka!
When I got up from my chair, I had a markedly less amount of swelling in my feet after sitting for three hours! That was the answer to my problem; using a footrest to bring my feet more in line with my knees.
I went looking for tall adjustable foot rests and found one that was just right. Now, I can sit at my desk for hours in comfort without swelling feet! Hey, I know I could just get up and walk around to alleviate it also, but who has time to get up constantly?
Once I get up, I lose my train of thought and then it takes me precious time to get back into my groove. I get distracted easily, so the more I am able to sit in my chair and work with my feet up, the more productive I became.
Now, as if that wasn't enough, I even found a footrest that had a BUILT IN massager! Oh my, now I don't want to get up at all! New problem.
